Biography
Krystopher and Katie Scroggins traveled different paths to meet the Lord, but those two paths converged during their college years. Katie and her mother were some of the first members of Dallas Bible Church and were members there as the church grew from a newly planted church to a large, healthy church. She gave her life to the Lord at the age of 7 during a VBS her church had organized, was shortly thereafter water baptized, and never faltered or wavered. She received the baptism of the Spirit while spending time with her best friend Melody Barker, and Melody's grandparents, the Happy Hunters. She attended Oral Roberts University for 3 semesters before transferring to a Dallas area community college and then on to Sam Houston State University. Krystopher comes from a non-church background, and met the Lord the summer before his junior year in high school through an outreach ministry called Young Life. He was discipled by his Young Life Leader for a year, and began to regularly attend church at Dallas Bible Church where he was water baptized as well. He attended a Dallas area community college before transferring to Sam Houston State. They both volunteered with the DBC Youth Ministry and met and started dating soon after. They transferred to SHSU and got involved with Chi Alpha on that campus, joined a small group, became leaders, and Krystopher also received the infilling of the Holy Ghost. After graduation, they came on staff with SHSU:XA. Krystopher and Katie were married in March of 2006 and graduated with degrees in History in 2010 and Photography in 2007 respectively. They have three kids; their daughter Finegan, age six, their son Donald, age four, and their newest addition, a one year old son named Henry.
Prior Ministry Experience
Krystopher and Katie have always been active members of church bodies wherever they have been. Katie was a student-leader with her youth group and went on missions trips to Canada, Romania and several domestic locations as well with her home church. Krystopher was a student-leader and then a volunteer leader with Young Life and also went on missions trips to Mexico and Cuba. For three years they worked for Carolina Creek Christian Camp during retreat season and summer where they gained experience as both camp counselors and leadership in leading and organizing skits, delivering messages, leading worship, and facilitating outdoor activities. For the last decade, they have been leaders in both volunteer and full-time capacities with Sam Houston Chi Alpha. They have participated and led missions trips to the Netherlands, Germany, and the Czech Republic. Krystopher and Katie have led small groups and ministered on a personal basis to college students, as well as practical ministry experience gained both on the campus and in the workplace. Krystopher has also assisted with preaching, setting up and running sound systems, playing in the worship team, teaching, and logistical tasks. Katie has gained experience in on-on-one ministry and hospitality.
Call
We will be a part of a team pioneering a ministry that targets university students in Czech Republic with Assemblies of God World Missionaries, Steve and Jennifer Cuttino. The Czech Republic has more alcoholics than evangelical Christians, and upwards of 97% of the country holds to atheistic or agnostic beliefs. Our hearts are for students to be reconciled to Christ, transforming not only the university, but also the marketplace and the world. We believe student ministry is the most strategic way to reach a nation, for those years are the most formative for a young person where they develop the convictions that shape their character for the rest of their lives. At the university, we can impact the future intellectual, corporate, and political leaders of the Czech Republic.
